Hello,

My friend recently had a bad experience with a small investment firm. She was given false information that caused her to loose some money. When she demanded to speak to the president, he was very rude to her. He did not insult her, but the way he spoke to her was extremely rude. Anyway, my friend got so angry about the whole thing that she wrote an email to the company (website) that was addressed to the president (not sure if the emails went directly to him), but she called him a piece of ---- for the way he treated her. Now a few days after the situation she is worried that he may sue her? Can he?

Thank you!

I don't think that anyone can be sued because of something that was sent in an email. I could be incorrect about that. But, the contents of emails can be easily changed by both a sender and a receiver concerning the dates that an email was received and also the contents.

I don't think that anything concerning emails would stand up in a court of law. They are not true documents but only communications that are conveyed electronically.

Hello Pink:

Calling someone a nasty name to their face ISN'T actionable - even if you do it by email.

Thanks for the responses. I'll let her know that she has nothing to worry about. :)

This is a great site by the way. I just discovered it yesterday.

I don't think he'd have much of a case. One disgruntled customer calling the president of a large investment firm "a piece of _ _ _ _" isn't likely to create any measurable damages that would give him legal cause against her. But in the future advise your friend to think before making comments like that on an open forum.
