This is normal for a lot of women. Brown blood indicates old blood, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

You will probably need to switch to a pad a little later. Lots of women start really light on their period, and then it will progress into heavy, and then taper back off to light :)

Yes its normal. Its just old blood that your body is cleaning out of itself. Right at the beginning of your period, and also at the end, your blood can appear brown. Its okay and nothing to worry about :)

Yea I just got mine today too , And it wasn't a lot.. Its just a little bit like through out the day . My mom told me what it was and She told me to wear a pad . So I did.. lol

I am twelve years old, so this is a bit strange for me! I woke up this morning, changed my underwear and found blobs brownish reddish stains in my pants! When I told my mum, she didn't really take any notice, or give me information, so I thaught I'd just wear a towl all day. From what I've heard in sex education, a period is at the least, the same amount as a full big spoon, but I only had patches in my pants and a smallis blob on my towl. Is this normal??

Your body is getting rid of the old blood, it looks kind of like a rusty color but it is normal. It will normally change to a reddish color after a couple of days and might change back to the brownish color toward the end. It is normal though so don't be alarmed its perfectly normal. Also Cutiefab34, the back pains I will let you know sometimes they will come a week before you get your cycle. Midol works really good for the back pain

I just got mine a couple of months ago. At first I was worried when it would occasionally be brown, but that's totally normal.
And yeah my back was hurting too the first day I started in like January and I thought maybe I'm going to start but then I was like no way so I got home and I did... YIKES!!
Tips... well, I just started to use tampons and I have had it 3 or 4 (maybe 5) times. THEY ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN PADS!! Lol

Omg! I just got mine today! I thought the blood had to be red so I didn't pay attention to it this morning, but it keeps reappearing. My friend told me the same thing happened to her. Yes it is normal. Mine was the same way. Ur body just insn't use to the change. Every now and then I get it still. But my body isn't use to it yet. This is ganna sound weird but most girls have a weird smell when they are getting ready to go on thir period. If u think the smell is different then its just old blood. I hope this helps

Hello I've only just started my period yesterday and I'm asking the same question too but people have said to me that it is normal to have brown blood at first and your blood is supposed to be brown for the first couple of mounts/years.
