I had naturally curly mid length hair, but as with most people we are never happy with what we have got. So I had it straightened a few times by the hair dresser and eventually borrowed a friends GHD's to straighten my own hair. Which was great I had the best of both worlds.

Problem being I straightened it more than wearing it curly, now I have come to wash it and not bother straightening and my curls have GONE!! I washed and left hair to dry naturally but it remained straight and felt like straw.

I have asked my hairdresser and she is mystified and assures that my hair is not in a bad condition. I have washed a number of times and tried alsorts of Hot Oil and Conditioners to put moisture back into my hair but it still remains straight.

I am mortified can anyone help with this, as I have search the internet and can find nothing about using Straightners causing naturally curly (Ringlets curls) to disappear.

Thanks A x

Yikes, that happened to me also. I hate to tell you I had to let my hair completely grow out for the curls to reappear as the straightener permanently killed my curls. I actually permed it to get them back until it grew in. Now, due to a health issue I have no curls, just frizz, I wish I never complained about them. Good luck, the less you do the better or you will damage it.

I have curly hair, and it is very long.I also straighten it at times.I use john frieda hair serum. It works great on my hair, and it is the only brand that works. It costs about $9.00 a bottle but it makes my hair soft and frizz-free,whether I straighten or leave curly.Your hair has to be soaked with water when you apply,so do it as soon as you get out of the shower.

Thanks. Nothing has worked for my flyaways without weighing it down.
My hair is SUPER thin, and then curly but more frizz then curl. I hate it.
I have tried all I can, I will try your product, thank you!

Gypsy, sorry doing this all in the wrong order, thanks for original Answer, not what I wanted to hear but I am glad someone out there understands my problem. I just hope my hair grow the same as before and not a diff colour or style etc. Its strange as my roots are apparently still curly so no one can understand why the hair has gone straight. Did you get an explanation for this at all?

I am 40 years old and have done all the same crap to my hair you have done.I've had straighteners ,perms, hot rollers, flat irons. All of this will damage your hair,no matter what you do.You have to cut the parched ends off, they will never curl again.I let a friend straighten my hair 20 years ago,and it fried it.I had to cut my hair to just below my ears, and I hate short hair.My hair is very long,I grew up in the 80's and know all about big hair.If you want curly hair, you have to use the right products.I have dry hair from straightening with a flat iron, and coloring, but if I use the right products my hair looks great.

I, too, have naturally curly hair and had a situation where it straightened itself out - my hairdresser and I went through all possible causes including the shampoo I was using. We finally found the cause to be some medication I was taking. After I quit taking the medication and it got out of my system - my hair went back to be curly!! I found out even over the counter supplements can affect the curls in my hair, as well.

Hope this helps!

Catady - Thanks for this, most helpful I did start taking some medication about a month ago, but never dreampt medication could do that to your HAIR!! I will take a break from the medication and see if this makes any difference as I have tried all the top shampoos, conditioners, and curly hair products on the market.

Thanks again for this, fingers crossed!

I just wanted to add that I only straightend my hair four times and now I have curly hair but underneath my head it stayed straight. I feel miserable. The John Frieda does Work! I have the curl spray, and it made my hair super curly! However I have to use a lot, and it goes fast. $$$. But it's not a permanent fix to the problem. So I think I will try cutting me hair to cut off the straight. That's what two people on this site recommended. I seems to make sense. Thanks.

I was told trying going off the pill, and that hormones are the likely culprit for many women. Well after 15 years on, going off did nothing.
There are products now like the jan marini Marini Hair that made it grow in thicker, can find it at theskinspecialist.com and they email you a coupon if you write to them first. $$$ so make sure to do that but don't tell them I said to!
Didn't make it curly but thicker, it was very thin. You massage it into your scalp daily, many of my friends use it now too.
Let me know if cures for the curls! Thanks
