View Full Version : RPM's at 0, but car is on

accord

I have a 98 honda accord, 4 cyl. On rare occasion, I will be driving my car, when all of a sudden I am no longer accelerating. My foot is on the gas, but my RPM's have dropped to 0. The car stays on this whole time, but I can't go. I have to turn the car off and then when I go to start it, it cranks but won't turn over. After some time, it will start up and I can drive without problem. The dealer first said it was the CLUTCH, which I didn't believe, but also did diagnostic work and said they couldn't come up with any problems. This has happened to me about 3 times in the last 3 months, and the dealer said to bring it back when it started to happen more frequently. When the car stops accelerating, or is unable to "keep up" with the pressure of the gas pedal, my green ignition key light starts blinking like when I turn my car off normally. I suggested the ignition switch, or maybe something with the fuel lines (?) to the dealer and asked if they could inspect it or test it, but apparently without any problems coming up during computer testing they are unable to... definitely unwilling to, which is more likely. Any suggestions? I don't really want to take it back to the dealer and would like to have a few ideas as to what the problem could be. Thanks.

. Replacing the Ignition Control Module and coil, inside the distributor, will likely solve the problem. Here's how to do it yourself:
