I have a "motel" style A/C unit and it is running intermittently. The fan usually works but often when I turn it to cool, or heat, nothing happens at all. One repairman said it is "shot" but others have said since the compressor is still working good when it comes on, that it is salavageable. Nobody in town here works on these. Some have suggested the circuit board. It is a model #PTEC1501JBA. I can do some work on appliances but I don't know where to begin, what to buy first, etc. Thank you.

When it fails, check to see where you are losing power. Could be a loose or corroded connection, could be the selector switch or the bulb on stst no mounted securely. Also as you stated could be the board. If you open unit up you should see a electrical diagram. Study it to see the flow of electric. I will make it easier to troubleshoot. Can't believe no HVAC co. in a town would not repair these. Post back if I or someone else at this site can help. Maybe someone else will answer as well. Good Luck

These PTAC units are pretty easy to work on ,the unit will slip out of the cabinet, once out of the cabinet you can see the fan motor and access the electrical controls easier, probably the selecter switch, best checked with a multi meter, good luck, Mike
