View Full Version : Getting my IUD tomorrow

Okay, I am getting my IUD inserted tomorrow. Is there anything I should know before I get it?

I read that there is a risk of sterility, perforation of the uterine wall, and the IUD becoming embedded in your uterus. Has anyone experienced any of these things with the IUD? Or does anyone know how high of a risk these things are?

Thanks :)

Howdy,

I've had an IUD for years, and I love it. Keep in mind that it should only be use as primary contraception if you are with only one partner. It will not protect you from STD's.

I personally recommend the Merena instead of the Para guard. They both prevent pregnancy, but I found I had a lot more bleeding with the Para Guard which is made of copper. The Merena has hormones in it as an added protection. I found that my periods are lighter and sometimes I will go a month or 2 without a period at all. I don't miss them at all.

The insertion process is a little uncomfortable. A little more than a normal pelvic exam. You may want to take some Tylonal or Ibuprofin before you appt. But all in all the procedure is fairly quick. You may have a little spotting after the insertion, but that is normal.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info! I got it yesterday, and besides a little bit of cramping, everything went OK! I thought I would be able to feel it but I cant.

I got the Mirena as well. Did it cause you to stop having a period? :)

Glad it went well for you...

The only lingering problem that my hubby and I had are sometimes the Dr. may not trim the stings right and my hubby was getting poked in his penis when we had sex. It took another appt to get things to where he could enjoy sex. But I've never had any problems with mine.

Take care,
