Marriage
My name is Karina Sierra and I been dating my boyfriend for about 2 years, we recently decided to get married. The problem is that I was not born in the United States and my parents decided to bring me to the United States when I was only 9 years old. I had been in the U.S.A about 12 years now. My boyfriend and I are wondering what process we have to follow after marriage, if I am not a legal resident and have no proof of any type of legal status. We want to know what to apply for and if is dangerous to apply. Can I get deported?

Are your parents legal residents?

Is your boyfriend a U.S. citizen?

I been searching in most of the pages and most of them said that he could apply for a visa for me to enter into the U.S. to marry him a U.S. citizen. Also informs that my boyfriend could apply for a green card for me after the marriage and I could only stay here if I have a valid visa throughout the waiting period the one he acquire throughout the process of marriage. I can't seem to find any information that tells me what process do I have to follow if I am already here in the U.S. and have no legal status?

Ok, here's what you can do. Go to a public library and ask a reference librarian to find specific information for you. It will be there. Or ask your boyfriend to go to find out. At least that will give you information that tells you where you stand. (The librarian will not report you to the INS.)

Let me know what you find out. If I have time at work tomorrow, I will look it up myself. (I work in a public library.)

If you don't know immigration procedures why are you answering? She has 2 options in her case, see below

You have 2 options, you can apply for citizenship based on naturalization. You were brought into the US by your parents illegally and had no choice in the matter, you can apply for naturalisation based on this and the fact that you have nowhere else to go.

This could get messy if your close to your family and still live with them.

Your best option is to get married and apply based on this (have your boyfriend sponsor you for citizenship), you may still have to explain why you have been in the US for most of your life illegally but that can't really be helped
