What is diffrence between QA and QC in Manufacturing industries?

QC = error detection
QA = error prevention
In my industry - pharmaceuticals - we typically break it down like this:
QA (Quality Assurance): Checking things in-process, conducting investigations of failure and inspecting documents related to the manufacturing process.
QC (Quality Control): Lab assays for identification and strength, process validations.
