Should be 2 screw at front corners and then just lift. Possible they could be hidden under a piece of crome that has to be removed first.

Removed the control panel, been dealing with inoperative agitator, spin/drain cycles, F3. F4 fault codes, checked lid switch continuity, o.k. manufacturer recommends replacing control board; sound reasonable?

It could be. If it is not agitating/spinning I would look at the coupling. It is located between the motor and transmission and not too difficult to do. However, I am not familiar with the F3&F4 code. I believe I would check the coupling first as if it is bad only about $15. The board would be a whole lot more.
