Suicide laws do change, assisted suicide for terminally ill has gotten a lot of attention and laws in regard to it is being changed.
Beyond that, it varies from case to case but in general laws are in place to help force treatment for them, since those that do try to kill thierself need professional help.

Not all people that try to kill themselves are in need of professional help, that is if you meant in the mental help category. Some may be condemned to death by a disease that will linger on for a long time, and in this time they will need pain medicine and maybe nursing care that is very expensive, it can be so expensive that it might leave the persons family as paupers and they may not want to put this burden on their family or they may not want to suffer the ravages of cancer or other terrible deceases.
Then there is the effects of rheumatoid arthritis, pain so bad that you can not sleep, miss shapened joints that will keep you from walking, hands so twisted that you can not hold a cup or coffee or turn a knob to open a door. Taking pain medicines that make you feel like a zombie but still you count the minutes till you can take another one.
And then there is the loneliness or out living your family and your friends and no way to get out and make new friends. If you know someone in this predicament please brighten their day with a visit or a cake or pie, you will love yourself for it.
