I have a modular whirlpool ice maker that's doing some weird things. Initially it wouldn't do anything. Using the diagnostics supplied w the frig/ice maker, the optics system is working OK. So then I went on to diagnose the modular section and, according to instructions, jumpered the thermostat. I checked after the obligatory 5 sec wait; the ice maker came to life and the ejector fingers stopped at the 1200 position (straight up). Still no water. I then closed the freezer door and, after a couple of seconds, heard the water flowing, and flowing, and flowing. Opened the door and indeed the water was flowing and wouldn't stop until I turned the entire frig off and, thankfully, didn't start flowing when I turned the frig back on. I discovered that this process is repeatable. I'm assuming that the emitter is stuck in the "on" position due to the motor perhaps stopping the mechanism in the incorrect spot. Why it won't turn further is a puzzle, particularly when jumpering the motor again doesn't do anything.
So, does anyone have an idea as to why won't my water to the ice maker turn off?

It has a switch ( A set of contacts) inside the module. The activator is either not seated in slot or the contacts are messed up. Check all out to verify. If all is OK you will need to replace the module. However,for about $20 more you can replace complete unit. It is not difficult to repair this type of componet. You just need to diassemble and study how the arm attaches and moves the contacts.

By the switch (contacts) are you referring to the microswitches in the unit? Also, a little confusion here, you say "If all is ok you will need to replace the module." If everything is OK, why would I have to replace the module?

Yes the contacts that are made by the on/off lever. Sorry, I meant to say that if not OK replace. You are right, if all were OK you wouldn't need to replace let along be on this site for advice. Do you see how the on/off arm operates the contacts? Is the arm mounted properly? I do have a photo I can try and post if it will help you.
