Is there a set amount to be paid as a minimum of time for pay for a person on call. I work as a maintenance man. I get called out all hours of night to unlock doors and to fix things .My employer only wants to pay half hour, It takes that long to get up and get dress then drive across town. And we all know the price of fuel.

Every position is different, every company is different.

Can you provide more info so that people can answer you better?

Are you covered by a union? If not you need to negotiate with your boss how to handle this. As long as you are paid above minimum wage and subject to overtime rules, then its legal.
