I have been leaving in a rental house for 2 1/2 years now. When I first got the place I notified the landlord about the carpet, I this previuos tenant had pets, because its itchy but there were no response,I moved in winter, summer came and I noticed him that the Air conditioner was leaking, the landlord tried to fix but never worked, now for the past 2 months I've been paying $400 / month for water because there was aleak. He changed the whole plumbing but I still have the huge water bill for $700 only for this month.I can't take this any more. What can I do to break the lease the right way.
It's not healthy for my family anymore and I'm so broke.
Help, can I just leave my lease will be up in 6 months.

Hello T:

If you leave, you'll be sued. IF the issues you raise NOW were so distasteful THEN, why didn't you leave then?? You didn't, therefore, the conditions couldn't have been so distasteful.

That's exactly what a judge will ask, and if you don't have a good answer, you're going to pay...

I agree with excon, unless you signed a three year lease (very unusual) you probably renewed the lease at some point. So you would have a hard time justifiying unliveable conditions.

What you can do is sue the landlord for your increased water costs due to his not maintaining the plumbing properly.
