I've been working fulltime up until the time my autistic son started school. Since then, I stopped working so I can take care of him. He's receiving income supplement from SSA and I am his guardian. He just turned 18 but he can't manage to take care of himself. My question is, do I qualify as a caregiver since my son needs adult supervision everyday? If I am qualified as a caregiver, can I get compensated for my services since I stopped working because. Of him? I will appreciate any suggestions/advice. Thank you.

My son also has autism. I would call up SSA and ask then especially since he is already getting the SSI. The gov. changes the laws about stuff all the time when it comes to SSI. You might alos be able to file with you county assistance office and get cash assistance if you can not work because you are taking full time care of your son also
