View Full Version : Does my Air Conditioner Run off my Furnace?

Dear Rick,
Last evening, I heard a strange sound; the air conditioner was on. So, I opened the basement door, and it was coming from the furnace down there. I turned off the Air Con, and the noise stopped (it sounded like a "dragging" noise). By last night, I turned the air con up to 80 F so it wouldn't kick on. This morning same thing. I put the heater on, and I could hear the furnace trying to kick on; I could hear the pilot light trying to kick in, but it never did. So, I am guessing that the air conditioner and the furnace work together. Is this accurate?

Thank you,

THat's correct, the blower for the heater does the aA?C as well. The coils of the A/C are mounted on top the heater.

Best to call a repairman.

Welcome to this great forum.Yes you are correct. Some controls and connections are in the inside furnace section for your A/C. The blower motor to move the air through your vents is there that will move air for heat and cool both, transformer, relay thermostat connections, evaporator etc.
