I have a Hampton Bay flexible track ceiling lighting fixture (P/N 878-452) with five 120V 50W halogen bulbs. Is there a wall dimmer switch available that can dim these lights? (Even better if there is one that will work with the X10 remote system)

I was thinking (incorrectly it seems) that incandescent meant 'regular' light bulbs only. But when I open the pdf doc for the XPD3 it says "Incandescent (120V Standard or Halogen) Bulbs". So the it seems the XPD3 will give me local on-off and dimmer control. Do you know if I would also have dimmer control from the X10 Remote together with this wall switch?

I have already a PLW01 wall switch, but since it says incandescent lamps only I thought it wouldn't work for halogen lights (but it seems it will?). I don't have to have dimming ability from the wall switch, but do you think I would get dimming ability from the X10 Remote if I used this switch?

Just to add, halogen lamps are incandescent lamps on "steroids". If any component is rated for incandescent, it will operate halogen with no problem.

Does not apply to this question, since the halogen lamps are 120 volts, but, many halogen lamps are 12 volt and use either a magnetic or electronic transformer, so the dimmer or any other device must be rated to handle the type of transformer the halogen lamp/fixture is using, and not just incandescent or halogen lamps.

That dimmer can be controlled by keyfob, phone, computer, timer remote, anything,
They also make a TV remote control, that can transmit X10 RF codes to X10 receiver,
So you can control lights with TV Remote. Or any X10 Controlled Device.

It seems y'all are right... that the 120V halogen lights are included in the incandescent family. I put a PLW01 wall switch in place for on-off control, and my plug-into-the-wall remote is giving me both on-off and dimmer control.

The folks both at X10 and X10Pro said they didn't think it would work... that the wall switch would likely overheat - I'll see. They also said the info in the XPD3 pdf manual (in the link above) was incorrect - that it wouldn't handle halogen lights and that the XPDI3 was needed. But hopefully I won't need to test that out.
