Hello. My younger sister recently adopted a maltese puppy from the local dog pound, and then decided she didn't want him. I've taken him in but he doesn't feel very healthy. By that I mean he's very thin and a bit ribby, so I'd like him to gain a little weight. What are some good foods to give to him to help him reach a healthy weight? Thanks!

Almost any puppy chow should do. All but the cheapest are carefully formulated to give the puppy everything it needs. Adding anything else to its diet likely will mess up the careful balance and do more harm than good. If it is less than 3 months old, give it about a half a cup each of 3 times a day, or follow the package directions. Most puppies will devour all they need and look for more. Don't let it get fat.
