Me and my ex broke up a few months ago after dating for 3 years. He was very hurtful throughout and after the breakup. I was very sad by this and we talked once a week since then. Finally I got sick of letting him hurt me, and I totally cut him off, I didn't I'm , call or text him for wellover a month, and I did not care to talk to him anymore. Lately he has been iming me every day, saying hi, how are you, things that that, I usually sign off or act like I am not at my computer. Should I respond. I mean I guess if he really wanted to be with me he would be calling me or going to extreme measures to talk to me. Do you think this is just games to see if he still has me?

Did you try telling him to leave you alone? Can't you ignore him (like put him on an ignore list or something)?

He took you for granted and gives zero respect.
Please just tell him to leave you alone.
If he was hurtful, rude and imature - now he is just palying with you.
Block your IM - anyone who acted that way when you broke does not need another chance.

Definitely just games - YES - he just wants to see if he has you for his ego. This guy kind of sounds like an abusive jerk.

If you are willing to forgive him for the hurt that he has caused you; and you still desire to be with him, by All means respond. However, if you are still holding on to that hurt, you must forgive him... release it because it can only plant seeds of bitterness within you, liable to spring up at the wrong time and place. Give him a clean slate regardless of your choice, it makes you a better person, a healthier person, and a happier person.
Never allow another's insensitivity to load you down with unwanted baggage. Move on, if that is your desire; know what you want and why?

Yes, games. DO NOT respond. Do not say anything. If you do, he will continue to play the game just to get some sort of response out of you. Ignore it.

This is just me... but if you want to maybe try things again this is what I would say. "If youre texting me b/c you want to work on things with us, as of now Im willing to listen to you. If not, Im working on getting past this but Im not there just yet and its difficult to talk to you. I hope you understand."

You can also add something in there that you will not be an option.
