I have not contacted my ex in four months... and I'm doing pretty good. I have my moments at times but I am continuing with my life with the support of a dear friend who has stood by me and provided me with much encouragement howeve, my ex received a promotion as well as is going to celebrate his birthday in a couple of days. This will be the first birthday in 6 years that I am not going to celebrate with him. Should I call and congradulate him on promotion and also extend to him a happy birthday?

No you should not call. First of all, it will send the wrong message. Second of all, it will set you back a lot. What happens with your ex is no longer part of your life. Be strong. It's for the best.
