How do you choose a research topic? What class is this for? You would generally pick a topic related to what you are studying. For example, if you are studying Child Psychology, you pick a topic within that course study. Which gives you 100's of topics, if not more. Let's say you pick the topic of "baby play" and then you decide what you want to say about that, what you want to discuss and prove. Why is baby play important to the healthy development of the baby? Why not just feed and clothe and burp and coo to the baby? Why spend time "playing" with the baby? What would be some of the developmental skills that the baby would be learning? Why would that be important?
