View Full Version : Neighbors Selling Drugs?

My parents live in a private subdivision with an association - newer homes, very all-American, upper middle class with several young families. However, many of the homes in the sub are not selling and some people have decided to rent their homes.
One of the homes directly across the street from my parents is a rental. There are 6 people living there - what appears to be a mom, dad, and 4 boys ranging in ages from young teens - early 20s. The parents do not seem to be around very often which has led to late night parties, several noise disturbances, speeding down 25mph zones, playing catch on other people's property, etc. Basically they have no respect for the neighborhood. My parents have started noticing random cars parked in from of their driveway at all hours of the day and night. They are there for that house, but these visitors never park near the rental home. It looks as if drugs are being sold from this house. These random cars are only parked for about 10 minutes, one of the boys comes out, they have a hand shake, and the car is gone. My parents are very upset that this suspicious behavior and possible illegal behavior taking place. The cops have already been called twice for shooting off fireworks in the middle of the night and because a neighbor is concerned for the well-being of his vacant home while he will be out of the country. Is there anything that could be done about the alleged drug selling? My parents have been keeping a log of the vehicles and making note of their license plates. But since they are renting, could they be evicted? How do they go about proving something shady is happening? They have wanted to call the cops when these cars are parked out front, but they have no physical proof and the car would be gone by the time the cops arrived.

You said the cops have been called for fireworks. Have they ever been called for the drug selling? I would call the police next time you see a car outside. Whether the car is still there or not, the people in the house would still have drugs on them, whether they are the ones buying or selling. The more record you make of this with the police, the better. And if it is proven true, the landlord of the home can evict them.

Logging vehicles; descriptions, license plates, times, days, as much identification of the people going in and out as possible, all helps. You call the local drug enforcement agency, either through the police or other entity with this information and hopefully they will take this seriously.

Can those be people be evicted? Yes they can. Who is the owner? Is the owner even around to see or hear of these incidents? Have you considered a neighborhood petition calling for the eviction?

I would be suspecting drug use also - it surely is not a normal pattern of activity that you describe. Good luck pursuing this.

Here are some postings on a blog type site about a very similar question:

Thanks. I just wanted some reassurance. I'm afraid my parents will eventually loose their cool and try to take matters into their own hands. I'll pass along the great words of wisdom.

Try not to let them handle it themselves, drug dealers can potentially be very dangerous. :)

If you cut off someone's income they can be most unpleasant... suggest your parents deal only with the police and the police assure your parents that they will remain anonymous

My parents are very upset that this suspicious behavior and possible illegal behavior taking place. Hello Pinky:

You and your parents have been watching entirely TOO much television. I think you should take up a hobby.
