Hi there
A simple question from a simple person
Do you have to shut off the water stop valves to simply change a bath tub shower diverter.
The diverter is between the 2 faucets, I am thinking as long as the faucets are closed it would just be a matter of removing the faucet main plate and unscrewing the diverter and replacing it.
Just don't want to get hit by 50 to 60lbs of water pressure when I undo the diverter.
Thanks in advance
Steve

It would help to know the brand but generally you can do what you are planning. I would recommend shutting off the main or stops to be 110% safe and sure.

As you can see by the shower valve I've put up if the hot and cold is shut off no water will pass to the diverter so it's safe to open up the diverter without flooding yourself out. However, while it may be safe, to be prudent I would follow Bals advice and shut the valve off at the stops. Good luck, Tom
