When I go into msconfig and go to start up, whenever I attempt to change something I get access denied "log in as administrator" I am logged in a administrator. I am running a Dell Dimension XPS 600 with XPmedia edition. Any help will be welcome.

Start/ Run/ type "cmd"
Are you wanting ipconfig?
I only started messing with networking after XP. I thought msconfig was pre XP?
And XP uses ipconfig. My info may be useless for you, if so, sorry.

Boot into safe mode, log in as administrator, now you have access to everything

Found this at annoyances.org --- hope it helps --- like to hear from you

Stratmando, MSCONFIG and IPCONFIG are two COMPLETELY different subsystems within XP.
Please, if you are going to offer computer advice, make sure it is factually correct.

MSCONFIG deals with how the whole system runs from start up to services and other bits
IPCONFIG deals with networking ONLY.

I answered because no one else had. Don't know if answered by biggsie
Try:
How to use MSCONFIG in Windows XP: NetSquirrel.com (http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_xp.html)
I found I was typing msconfig at the cmd prompt. Type msconfig instead of cmd, in the "OPEN" line.
biggsie may have answered question?
Just trying to help, hope it helps better than my first post
