Every time I turn on the sprayer at the sink, all pressure goes out of the main faucet, but nothing really comes out of the sprayer, either--just a few drips. When I let go of the sprayer handle, the water in the main faucet does not come back on. Only after leaving the faucet handle up for several minutes or moving it on and off many times does it come back on. I'd like to fix it myself and not have to call a plumber. Any ideas what's going wrong here? Thanks!

The first thing I would check is the diverter. The diverter's located under the spout in the front of the valve body. The spout will have to =be removed to get at it. Once there check and clean the diverter seat and make sure the diverter's free. To tell you more I'll need the type and make of your faucet. Regards, Tom

Unfortunately I don't know anything about the faucet type--there aren't any kind of identifiers.
I think I'll have to call a plumber anyway. Last night I took apart the handle area and now I can't seem to get the parts to fit back together quite right. I also tried taking apart the spout and could do nothing but pull off an outer metal ring. Under that there didn't appear to be anything that could come apart, so I don't know how to get to the diverter.
