Disadvantages, no one to speak to if you have a problem, chargebacks from people who buy from you, purchases no real big problems.
But with paypal who to you speak to if a problem comes up? NO ONE. They control everything about there service not you.

I think it's actually more secure than some other methods of transfer. They have protection policies in place if there is a problem, which backs onto your credit card's policy if you use credit card through paypal. It also allows you to buy things without handing over your credit card details. This allows a degree of anonymity to be kept.

I know and I quote (purchases no real big problems.), but also gave the othe side of the coin if he choose to sell on eBay. Been there and done that. That is why I don't sell on eBay anymore. To many chargebacks and no help from either eBay or paypal.

Someone buy something from you and does't like it, file a dispute and paypal refund the money to them even without find out what the problem is.

I use Ebay a lot and that's ALL I accept for payment.
I find some simple Good Customer service clears up most problems ;)

Everything I ever sold on eBay had a money back guarantee, some people did return the items, some just kept them and filed a dispute the sale got their money back also. I am not saying everyone is like that, but 8 times I was burnt. I disputed their claims and eBay and papypal did nothing.
So I don't sell on eBay anymore. I will still pruchase, but not sell.
