I am brazilian and married to an american citizen, so I know that to became legal here in the states you need to marry a citizen.
Anyhow I have a friend in Florida that is an illegal alien and she is now pregnant by another illegal alien, she told me that when her baby is born she will be able to get citizenship through him/her, I told her she is crazy, but she would not believe me.
But just to make sure, can someone tell me if that is possible, can her american child get her the citzenship?

Thank you

The child will be a citizen, but the mother and father will not be. Your friend is having what is commonly referred to as an "anchor baby"; the US govt will not deport her because she is the parent of a minor US citizen, but she will not have the rights of a citizen. When the child becomes an adult, he/she can sponsor his/her parents for citizenship, provided laws have not changed by then.

Jillianleab is correct, although there are times where I have seen this in the news, the mother is deported and must make the decision to leave the child in America or take the child with her. There was an example in the news just a few months ago actually...
