I always wanted my cartilage pierced, just a simple stud. Though, my mother never wanted me to do it. I was at a friends house 2 days ago who has a piercing gun, that is her mothers who has a license for piercings. Anyway, so since I always wanted it done, my friend did it.

It's been 2 days, and it doesn't hurt all that much.
Here are a few questions I would like answered-

1. How long will it be until I can change it?
2. I have a silver stud in the piercing right now, and I understand that gold is preferred, would I be able to change it to a gold piercing?
3. If I were to take it out, how long would it take for it to close up?

About six weeks till you can properly cange it,but many people do it after 2
I started with silver and never changed healed fine but you can if you want
Had mine pierced for 6 years ago and had it it out for 1 year and it never healed up but in your case a couple of weeks maybe less it all completely depends on your bodies rate of healing.my lip only took 1 week before I was able to change it so yea.

When I got mine do I could change it after four days. But people are different, but just make sure that you twist it so it does get stuck, but try to take it out after four or five days, then you'll just have to see.

1. It is not recommended to put a hoop in until you have had the piercing at least a year. However, you can put another stud in after 3 or 4 weeks. Hoops tend to get caught on things and tear the skin, which is not good for your piercing.

2. Silver is okay, but gold is preferred.

3. A freshly pierced cartilage can close within hours, but a healed one can take a year or more to close.

Also, there was a comment above about twisting the earring. You can twist it, but only rotate the earring ONCE. Don't sit around and play with it and twist it all day. This will cause irritation in the piercing and take it longer to heal. :)

You shouldn't take it out for 12 weeks because it MIGHT close but if your worried about the whole silver/gold thing it really don't matter... I had mine pierced with silver surgical steel I think and its been OK for almost 3 years... and once it does heal don't leave it out for more than 24 hours or it might close up

It is VERY dangerous to get a piercing from a friend in an unsterilized environment. For future reference, I would let a professional do it next time :)

Change it after 3-4 maybe 5 days.
It doesn't matter if you have silver or gold but if you do want to change it wait till you can change it (3-4 maybe 5 days)
It will take 3-4 maybe a week depending on how fast you heel.
I HAVE LOTS OF PIERCINGS!

You should wait at least a month before even taking it out. You have to let the healing process begin and take its course, and 3-4 days is not long enough, it is still way too fresh.

Not only do you risk infection, it will still be tender and maybe painful to change at this time.

If u REALLY insist on taking it out just make sure you clean it really good so it don't get infected because it will hurt really bad!

I've pretty much been pierced from head to toe, and have had the gun used on me for a cartilage piercing. I never had a problem out of the piercing, but I definitely didn't know that piercers using the gun have only been trained for 2 weeks and practiced on a teddy bear! Ridiculous!

Yes, you should wait at least a month before taking it out.
The preferred healing period is at least 6 monthes to a year for cartilage piercings.
As:

1. It would be good if you leave it for at least 1month.

2. Silver and Gold are all the same, they will both heal well. As long as its Argent Sterling Silver or 14K Gold, then its fine, also make sure its not "gold plated" or "GP" cause its actually REAL 14K/Sterling Gold/Silver paint on a piece of metal. SOoner or later, the paint will chip and... you wouldn't want paint chips in your flesh would you ?

3. It really depends on the person and his/her ability to heal how quick.
I left mine out for 5 minutes before the full healing period, and it never closed.
But it might not be the same for you.

Yes, you want it to heal, but you also don't want it to grow to the jewelry. When you twist it, you always make sure it is wet (like when you wash it), that way the skin is saturated and it does not rip.

I just had my cartilage pierced yesterday so ill just say what they told me.

You should NOT change your jewellery or remove the jewellery within 3 months without consulting a trained piercist.

Also you should twist once while cleaning so that it doesn't get stuck to any skin and so it loosens any plasma build up etc.

I donmt know how long it'll take for it to stop hurting, I suppose that just depends on how fast it heals which can be between 3 and 12 months..

well i qot my piercinq about a month aqo. I qot mine pierced with a qun at claries. They said to clean it 3 times a day {{i dnt}} and to twist it when i clean it {{so that the skin doesnt stick to it and when yu chanqe it it hurts}}. I have a silver stud its healinq fine. By the way i have 7 piercinqs and i didnt twist it and my earrinq was stuck and when i pulled it it REALLY hurt. And when i qot my cartilaqe pierced the first 3 days didnt hurt then all of a sudden it started hurtinq. Its better now. Hope i helpped <3

2.acctually, silver is better. Mine is just fine.
3.surprisingly, it only takes a newly pierced earing of any kind to close up in about just an hour.
I suggest you keep it in for a year, take it out, clean it very good, then put a nother good one in and keep that one for about a year. After that, it should be healed.
BUT, you should NEVER EVER SLEEP ON IT THE FIRST FEW MONTHS!! THIS WILL CAUSE SOOOOOO MANY PROBLEMS!! Hope this helps!! BUT TAKE MY ADVICE!!

1.I got one 2 months ago and it still hurts to take it out but you have to clean the inside so yeah maybe lyk 1 month.
2.my sister got one donea day after me because she liked it and hers is silver mine is gold and there isn't much difference.
3. maybe because its 2 days a couple of hours and it would probably scab up
By the way if you clean using salt and water tea tree oil is much better
