We just moved into a house with a septic system and a basement hook-up for the washing machine. There is a open pipe above the washer hookups which I assume is the drain for the washer? How do I change out the hose or do I add an extension or what? Or is this a job for a plumber? It's a Whirlpool Ultima II washer. Thanks for any info.

Normally the drain for the washer is near the faucets for the hot/cold water. You need to run a washer drain hose from the back of the washer (drain connection) to the drain on the wall near the two faucets or wherever it is. Might need to puchase an extra long drain hose which are usually avail as most home supply places like Lowe's , Home Depot.
