Nearly 2 months ago I had my brown hair dyed a slightly darker brown with red in it by a professional. It came out a little more red than it was supposed and the stylist said the red would be virtually gone after 3 weeks. Well, it's still there bright as ever and in the sun it looks a little purple. Basically, I hate it and want my natural brown back.

HOWEVER, my hair when it was dyed had some blonde highlights that had been done nearly 5 months prior.

Would color zap or any other hair dye remover effect my hair? Well it remove the red and reveal my natural hair color?

depends on the gravity of your original color + the intensity of the highlights. color combination can be misleading or should i say may produce variations. was your hair originally black or darker than brown? if so this could be the problem. you can have it either color with dark again just to cover the bad result bad i wouldn't recommend. for now just enjoy it while it last. at least you know how highlights/lowlights work now. ask your artist she/he may have better insights for you.

When using hair color removal products, you will end up with a brassy raw orange or yellow color, and you will need to re-color your hair in order for it to look natural. Use a brown or ash brown hair color. This will neutralize the red tones and make your hair look brown. Leave the color mixture on your hair for ten minutes then rinse it out.
