Hello, I am a very new newbe! I am hoping to get some advice on what to do next. I will briefly explain what has happened:
*3/8/07 I receive a letter from a local lawyer saying that I owe $16K and he was making me one time offer of $13K if I acted by 3/22/07. This letter was addressed in my married name (I was divorced in 1991). I quickly did some asking around and research.
I checked my credit report and found NOTHING regarding any debts that could match (or come close) to that amount.
*3/13/07 I send a certified letter requesting validation.
*4/17/07 I send a follow up letter reminding lawyer I asked for validation (certified)
*6/19/07 I finally receive a letter from lawyer identfying original creditor, my name, my date of birth my SSN#, amount (now only $8K), and the as of date as 11/06.
Also stated in letter is "it appears that all the correspondence and documents you sent to this office to date are frivilous and unsupported by state and federal laws. Accordingly, both this office and our client are not liable to you" also sated that letter is from a debt collector and the debt MAY have been disputed. Looks like a form letter...
SOOOO, what do I do now? There was no demand to pay only what I stated above. Please let me know what all this means and dwhat should I do?
Thanks
