Happy Dragon Boat Festival to all!
It is originated in Asia, from a traditional story. In the ancient time, A person named QuYuan, is very decent and pure-minded. Bad people slandered him in front of the minister. And when he was being misunderstood and suffered all the punishment, nobody familiar with him dared to prove his innocence, except a maid of him. She was sad at the dark times, and jumped into the river committing suicide to tell people that her owner was a good person. She was also disappointed at those who lacked the judgment and catered the wealth and the power. QuYuan was very sad. He wrote a long article to the people, in which he expressed that he would rather be awake and clean in death than lavish and deceive his conscience alive. And he committed suicide too.
This holiday is in honor of QuYuan. Chinese people in the past used to throw a special food into the river, to give QuYuan food.

I am in the Grand Masters crew for our dragon boat club and we have just had two festivals. The second being at Toronto Island which is the biggest in the Toronto area for the whole year. We have several throughout the summer months.

We have a wonderful ceremony for the first event of the summer and this honouring the 'survivor thrivers' (cancer survivors) connected with our dragon boat club.

Yes, Happy Dragon Boat Festival!!
