Yesterday I was riding in a vehicle and all of a sudden a started seeing double. This lasted for about 45 seconds. I had no other systems. What would have caused this?

This happened to me for a while...

Do you drink a lot of sodas, and not a lot of water?

How much salt doi you put on your food?

This may be a sodium deficiency, but its too early to make an exact match...

Boo Boo, double vision, or "diplopia" can occur for a huge number of reasons, ranging from the non-serious to the very serious.

You should really go and visit a doctor as soon as possible to get it checked out by a professional who will give you a proper diagnosis. But try not to worry about it too much if it was only temporary!

Haxzor, you really need to watch what you're saying to people fella, you can really upset people by just saying the first thing you can think of!

Umm, okay... fine then if its not, which it may not be, then why did I see double? You never know, it was almost the same senario with me...

Well anyway, the thing now is that boo boo hasn't answered back, so I guess this was of no use in the first place...

To get your definitive answer, make an appointment to see a "pediatric ophthalmologist". They are the double vision specialists.
And no, you do not need to be a kid.

Snyders, why do you recommend a "pediatric opthamologist"? Do you know for sure the is a child?

An ophthalmologist will do just fine.

Make sure your blood pressure is taken, as high blood pressure can cause this.

To answer your two questions, in reverse order:

As I said in my initial reply, whether this person is a child is irrelevant. Pediatric ophthalmologists are the double vision specialists.

There is no doubt that Comprehensive Ophthalmologists have excellent training in diagnosis and treatment of double vision. If this were an unusual case, however, the Comprehensive Ophthalmologist might refer the patient anyway to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist, who is also a Strabismus Specialist for all age patients, for evaluation and possibly management. For a double vision evaluation, going directly to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist from the start will reach the highest, most specialized, degree of training in this particular area first and possibly skip a step in the medical chain of care.
