We are building a 3650 square foot home in land o lakes Florida. We have an upstairs bonus room which is 750 square feet and everything else is on the first floor.

There are two standard trane air conditioners installed with the house. One for first floor and one for bonus room.

Both are seer 13 rated.

We have upgraded our windows to dual pane low e and are having foam injected into our cinder blocks.

I asked the builder to price a seer 14 and he said I wouldn't need it or like it because the house would feel wet because of all the other energy efficiencies we have done on the house. He said the seer 14 wouldn't run long enough to remove the humidity from the house.

I am not an expert here. Is this correct? Am I OK with my seer 13 units?

First off you need to have a manual J done to find out exactly what size equiptment you need. With out the manual J it is hard to figure anything except to take a good guess.

Equiptment of the same size ( IE 5 ton) will cool the same weather it is a 13 or 14 SEER. The 14 will just use less energy. Your duct lay out is also important for proper cooling and heating.
