I would like to file abondnment on my children's father (childs ages 4 and 6) he has not seen them since my four year old was 4 months old. I was told in order to do so in the state of Nebraska you have to wait 5 years and show that he has not contacted the children in that time, which he hasn't. I get child support off and on but really it puts me in a bind with the state when I don't get it because I use daycare/food stamp help. Example, I'll get child support for a few months, they'll reduce or close my food stamp/daycare case then the next month I'll get NOTHING for a few months in which time I have to pay 2 months of daycare or food that unfortunately I cannot afford! EVEN with the child support!
There is no one to adopt the girls, but I was told I can file abandonment on him after 5 years. Any advice or suggestions on giong about doing this? It's just too much of a hassle for me and the girls to go through this!

What is the advantage of doing this? Looks to me like there's NO upside, and it costs money to get.
