I had a question about akutuq or eskimo ice cream. I know what it is made out and is a meal served in my family often. My question is what is the history of it when did they start eating it?

It appears to be a tasty treat made by the fat of whatever the catch of the day was including seal ,bear ,moose ,caribou, salmon ,all sweetened with berries. I found no set recipe but rather family recipes are passed on generationally . We now know that many of these ingredients are high in Omega-3 oils that are very healthy for humans to consume. The berries provide levels of antioxidants also .
Are you from Alaska ? I am going there on vacation in a couple of months . I can't wait !
