Hi I have a goodman manufacturing air conditioner. The outside unit fan will not come on. I heard a click (assume an attempt to start) then no movement. There is a hum coming from the unit. The fan blade is free turning. There is a large amount of heat on the top of the unit (above what I assume is the fan motor). Searching the web tells me it could be a Capacitor or the fan motor. How can I tell which is the bad one? I'm not too bad at small repair once the problem part is diagnosed but is this a repair guy call?

Carefully try spinning fan with stick or long screw driver and see if fan starts running. If it starts the capacitor is bad

I just went out to do the stick trick and the fan is turning? The system has been shut off for approx. 1 hour. So.. the fan is turning (started on its own) but it is turning VERY slow with a large hum?

I thinks the motor is going bad and will need replaced. When changing he motro change the capacitor at the same time
