Hi, Im new to this site and have a question. Ive been having low water pressure so I checked my tank. The pressure was at zero so I filled the tank to 28psi. After about an hour or so, I lost pressure again. My filter system for the house is filling with black sediment almost to the top of the filter within about an hour.
I removed the filter housing and flowed about four or five gallon buckets to hopefully clear the system. Replaced the used filter with a new one. Same result.
My question is do I have a problem with my well or do I need to replace the pressure tank? Thanks for your help on this matter.

OK, its obvious that I need a new pressure tank but I'm worried about all of the sediment. Is it possible that the sediment just built up in the tank or do I need to have the well inspected. If I put a new tank in will it mess up the new one? Sorry for all of the questions just trying to get my water back.

Before I installed a new tank I would have the well checked. That crud got in your tank from the well. Perhaps the water table has lowered and you're pulling sediment from the well point. Good luck, Tom

Thanks Tom, I checked the water at the well and it started with a lot of volumn but after about 30 seconds went to a trickle. I guess my well is giving me problems. Thanks

Could the pressure drop at the well be related to the pressure tank? Also the water that ran from the well looked clean. Thanks

"Could the pressure drop at the well be related to the pressure tank?"
No! The pressure drop comes from the suction side of the pump, not the pressure side.

"Also the water that ran from the well looked clean."
Well, that crud's coming from somewhere and my bet it's from the well. Good luck, Tom

Tom, Thanks for all your help. After I removed the top to the well I discovered the wonderful world of Yellow Jackets.
I replaced the tank and one filter after some sediment went into the filter system. New filter is still clean so Im hoping it was left over sediment from backing up. Im not sure but Im hoping for the best. Thanks and God bless you and your family!
