My best friend moved into a rental apartment with her boyfriend and they both signed the one year lease. The guy then bought a house and sent a letter to the rental office; he said that was OK for them to move out because his lawyer had settle matters with the rental officer. They moved together to his house, but she broke up with him sort of 2 months latter. Now she received a call from a collector's agency saying that she has to pay 5 something thousand dollars because of the rent of the apartment they had leased together. She's going crazy about this situation! How could this be? If the lease was early terminated for him, should'nt it be terminate for her too? She called the ex-boyfriend and he said that HIS lawyer took care of HIS part!! HELP in FL

Hello gm:

The ex is lying. He didn't take care of any of it, and they can go after either one for the full amount. She should make an offer.

Owww!! You must be a psych because the guy is a costumary lier!! But make a offer to whom? The rental officer or such? She'll be at the rental office next Saturday, you know, this girl is pretty naïve for believing in this guy.. why you think is a lie? He did buy a house after they left the apartment... and tkx for aswering my question sooo fast. I'm writing this from Brazil and my friend lives in Florida.

'this girl had a very complicated knee surgery about 8 months ago and has been through a lot with this jerk of boyfriend she's know renting a room in some folks home, so all she has now are bills, bills and more bills. Do you think she'll have to pay this thing anyway?

The first thing she needs to do is find out what actually transpired between the rental agent and the BF. Did he try to make some agreement, was it only on his part? She also needs to determine when the apt was re-rented. Landlords should not be able to get her to pay for rent after they rerented it. Once she gets the info she should contact an attorney who can then go after the BF for his share of what's owed.

Once she gets this info sh sh
