Hey guys I have a question that mabey you can help with, I am five weeks pregnant and for some reason people are saying several things to me to indiacate that they think I'm having twins, I have two children and the thought was never ever brought up with them.
So my question is what are the chances I could have twins?
Does it have to run on my side or does it have to run on my husbands side.

My husband has twins on both his mother and fathers side and I can only think of one set of twins on my side but it was from a generation ago.

Thanks

At five weeks? No one would know but an OB/GYN with the correct equipment.

The twinning is carried down through the mother. That doesn't mean that it can't be given from father to daughter though. If you have a daughter she can get the twinning genetics from her father... Ok... Now if the twins are fraternal then it's because your (female) body has released two eggs at the same time and they have both survived implantation then you get twins. With identical it's different. So far I have not come across any real scientific or medical reasoning as to why identical twinning occurs. So that can go either way. Hope this helps answer your question... I really had too much time on my hands when I was preggy with the twins... lol

I agree with Myth. And I also agree with NK about not being able to tell at 5 weeks. Chances are the doctor wouldn't even know at that point because the babies may not even show on an ultrasound, and would definitely not be able to be picked up on doppler. Are people saying things about your size? This is my 4th pregnancy and as you can tell by my pic, I am already showing a great deal for being only 12 weeks... people keep asking me about twins as well, but my 1st ultrasound showed only one baby.

People are just saying they have a feeling like my mother she called me on the day I went to the doctor for my yearly check up and said that I was pregnant so she knew before I did she's now saying she has a strong feeling its twins.
I am five weeks but my jeans that were lose on me two weeks ago are so tight around the waist now that I have to un button the button.
I guess its just a wait and see game.
Thanks to you all for your help your ALWAYS so helpful

I started bumping out at around 5 1/2 weeks... just a tiny bulge, but it was noticeable to me. Everyone is different.

Hey if this helps... In my family my granmother had two sets of twins so they say the next generation would have the next twins... so not her kids her gran kids.. another thing my grandmother would do is look at your previous child's hair I know in spanish its called the "corona" so in english I would think it's the crown you know in the back of the head where it swirls a little... so if your youngest child has two of them its would be said that you would have twins next... sometimes depending what it would look like or what side it was on she can tell you if your next child would be a boy or girl... its not a psychic thing or nothing just a saying... Anyways I hope you understood what I was trying to tell you and maybe have some fun trying to figure it out... Anyways good LUCK!

I've been told in school... normally twins run in the family in every other generation so if any grandparents on your side or your husbands side have twins then your likely to have twins but it's a bit early

My husbands grandmother on his moms side was a twin then she had her daughter which is my husbands mother and she had him so would our babies be the next generation?

Twinning doesn't skip generations... That is an old wife's tale... If your going to have twins at all it's going to be on your side of the family either passed to you through your father or mother at the time of conception. The only twinning that can possibly come from the father of your children is identical twins. No sperm can affect how many eggs your body will release to be fertilized.
