I was diagnosed with Quinsy (abcess on the tonsil) 2 days ago. I got a shot in the butt, and have been prescribed Penicillin V 500mg (2 caps twice daily). It is now 48 hours since I started the meds, and I have only a slight decrease in pain and discomfort. My tonsil appears to be less swollen, but still as sore. Have I given enough time for the meds to work, or should I go back to see my doctor? He did mention that he may need to change the meds if they didn't work, or I may need to go into hospital and get it lanced.

I have read up on Quinsy, and am a little worried as I have read that in rare cases, if left untreated, it can be fatal.

Help, should I go back to docs today or give it more time?

Never mind... it seems to be on the mend now. Thank goodness I wasn't relying on an answer from here though LOL

Well some medications take at least 3 or 4 days to actually show a difference. Happy to hear it has worked and your on the mend now. 2 days is too soon to know if antibiotics are working or not.
