Our 4mnth old pup doesn't like the rain... he was toilet trained in drier times. Now that the rain has come (in spurts) I am finding litlle accidents around the place, usually in the laundry, on the balcony and under the cover of the patio. Aside from catching him in the act (almost impossible) and standing out in the rain with him... What else can I do??

Take an umbrella and make him walk around outside. At that age, they can't hold it very long when walking. Praise followed by an immediate retreat inside should be very effective for a dog that doesn't like the rain.

Otherwise, keep him insight inside, close doors, put up gates, leash him to you, tie him to the computer desk, of if you have to, crate him.

Wags, labman is right. FYI, most dogs don't like the physical sensation rain makes when it hits them. You need to put your dog on a leash, grab that umbrella, and take him for a walk to do his business. When you get back inside, dry him off with a clean towel.

You would be surprised what types of products they sell for dogs with this problem. Raincoats and dog umbrellas that strap to their heads.

To get your dog out of it's current habit. While not in close watchful eye, keep in his crate. When he has to go bad enough and when there is no where else to go he will go in the desired place.

I rescued a tiny 4 months chiuahua... she doesn't like to do her business in the rain... I built a fenced area for her and covered it in heavy plastic on one side. But she has gone to her forever home... and they don't do this for her although they do put her on a sweater before she goes in the rain... my chi/terrier has a wind breaker that he wears in the rain.. that I fashioned out of a pant leg .it goes from his neck to the tip of his stubby little tail... he does quite well with this approach. Good luck

Hi all... been a while but pup is going well. We've found that the more time he has had in the water (bathing and swimming) the better he's become. Haven't had troubles since this original post. Also found it difficult to be consistent as its pretty dry around here! Ta for the advice, good to have different ideas, u can only TRY!!
