Hello everyone, Have a question. We had to get our whole house re-piped a few weeks ago. Since then we have had 3 leaks in the same place. They have sent out repair people. The last leak flooded our downstairs. We now have water damage to the base boards. They are soft, warped and pulling away from the wall. Who is Responsible for the damage? Insurance won't cover because it wasn't accidental and we already had new pipes. Can someone shed light on this.. can we get the pipe company to pay or will we have to pay out of our pocket?

The company that did the damage is responsible for the repair. You should have no out of pocket expense. Good luck, Tom

Hopefully the company you hired is legit, and is insured. I would contact them asap.

If you used a Licensed and Bonded Plumber to do the work, then you should be able to recoup some of the money needed to make repairs from the Plumbers insurance company.
Most states set a minimum threshold for the amount of insurance coverage a contractor must carry -- Hopefully you are in one of those states.
Given that accidents do happen from time to time, I play it safe by carrying 4 times WA States minimum insurance requirements -- It costs me more in premiums payments, but it's still cheaper than having to pay out of pocket for the difference if something catastrophic should happen.
