It seems as though this is your first period? No, sweetie, your mum isn't wrong. Sometimes when we first start having our periods this will happen. You may have a heavier flow later tonight or tomorrow, but this is your period.
It will be strange for the first few months, you may even skip a month or two, or even three. But in time you will most likely become regulary and have it around the same time every month.

No honey, your mum isn't wrong. I take it that this is your first period.
Usually when you're on your period for the first time, you don't bleed as much.

No one can tell you when your period will start up and when you start to bleed. It may be minutes, hours or maybe even a day.

XxgemxX (https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/../members/xxgemxx.html) agrees: I wasn't very sure if I started my periods or not and I can get answers on here so I don't have to be embaresed to ask my family.
Sweetheart, do not be afraid to talk to your mother. She was a young girl once too, she had her first period once, just like you are now. She would be very pleased and proud that you can talk straight forward to her about this.
I know it is a little scary at first, but it will create a bond with your mother that you did not have before.

Pack some sanitary pads and take them with you. You may find you don't even get your period then.
