Hi. I have a floor drain in my basement that won't handle large amounts of water, like from a laundry load. It backs up. I once tried augering it and got a few roots out but there is a hard bend that prevents good penetration. I tried some root killer chemical and that helped a little but the problem came back. I don't believe the drain connects to my septic since the septic drain from the house is at a higher level than the basement drain. So I think the drain goes to a dry well. Is there anything I can do short of digging out my back yard and putting in a new dry well? The only thing is serves is the laundry so it isn't worth a big expense.

There is no sewer, it's a septic tank, and the exit line from the house is about two feet off the floor. My floor drain is well below that.

Then it's possible to cut is a 4 X 2" combination in the sewer line, install a AAV, (Air Admittance Vent) and a trap and stand pipe and you have a place to discharge your washer. Discharging a washer into a dry well may work for a while but the very volume of the discharge willl overload the dry well in time. The soil just becomes saturated and won't accept any more. Give installing a washer trap and standpipe some thought. Good luck, Tom
