My a/c was not shuting off or on and we figured it needed a new thermostat.
We replaced it and it is still doing the same thing. Before cold air was coming out and now
With the new one hot air is comimg out and still we not shut off.
We had to use the breaker to shut it off.
We called an a/c guy and he said we need a new compressor but my husband
Said it was working the thermostat was all messed up.
What could be causing the problem or do we need a new compressor?

Does the outdoor unit do anything when you turn the thermostat to cool? Was the thermostat installed properly? Did you check the breaker for the condenser? Typically when a compressor goes bad it is one of the windings that burnt out causing the breaker to trip immediately when you turn it on.

It dosen't do anything but stay on even when you shut off. Only when you
Shut the breaker then it will turn off. I think the guy that checked it was ripping me off
When he said it was the compressor. There is nothing wrong with the breaker.
It does not trip at all. I am going to call someone to try to reinstall the new thermostat.
Because what made me change it was it never shut off even if you put it on off, auto or on
On a higher temperature. It was on cold all the time even if you put the heat on.
So we changed it ourselves, but now instead of being cold all the time it just is air
Coming in and it seems like warm air. Maybe it is just the air circulating. I really don't know.
