Ok, I'll be perfectly honest and say upfront I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to HVAC systems. I used to think I understood programmable thermostats, BUT lately even that is suspect :o

We have a Honeywell T8611R thermostat. Just a couple of weeks ago it seemed to be working, but now... nothing. No lights no A/C... I even tried the (emergency) heat! Usually at least the "System" light comes on, now not even that works. We just replaced the 3 AAA alkaline batteries today!

I double-checked the circuit breakers and the junction box outside and everything seems to be in order.

Am I destined to be shopping for a new system :(... or is there hope still? :cool:

Do not have the attitude that you need a new system. Find out what the problem is and then go from there, it could be as simple as a broken wire somewhere in the system or a blown fuse.

Northern Heat has posted the best sticky on AMHD at the top of this forum. Great place for you to start. There is often a 3 amp automotive blade type fuse on the control board, usually inside the cover you access the filters. It is often the cause of a dead system. If the control wires out to the compressor are shorted, the fuse will just blow again. They sometimes get damaged.

I appreciate the words of enCOURAGEment (something I'm needing right about now). I'll check for a blade fuse in the unit downstairs. I'll seek out my multi-meter (I have one somewhere :D ) and check the voltage running through the wires.

If you lost display in the thermostat and it's battery powered I'd start there.
