View Full Version : Gifts for brother's stepkids?

My brother eloped two years ago and married a woman who has four kids - all of whom are in foster care. The wife does have visitation and my brother has begun adoption proceedings on one of the children and I understand the plan is to adopt more if not all of them. My question is, am I expected to buy presents for the adopted, or soon to be adopted step-nieces and nephews?

To complicate things - I have never met any of the stepkids. My brother has a 9 year old daughter I've not seen in 2 years but I do buy gifts for and speak to occasionally. I have not spoken to my brother in over a year (neither have my parents) due to a "final straw" issue (a whole other issue).

Any advice would be appreciated!

I say if you buy one of the siblings gifts then if they are step or not you should buy for all. It is not the children's fault. Don't buy gifts for your brother and his wife. How's that? Don't get fired up, just let the kids know they have a sweet auntie. Good luck.
