I gave my Apartment complex a thirty day notice that we would not be renewing our lease. Now that we have moved they are saying that we should have given 60 day notice and are charging us a month's rent. Nothing was said when I spoke to the manager about a 60 day notice and we could have stayed that extra month and then moved but this was not made aware to us. My question: is there any legal way of not having to pay that month's rent? (I live in ohio) Thanks.

Did you leave before the end of the lease agreement?

What did your lease say? Very often a lease will say that the tenant must provide 60 days notice if they do not intend to renew their lease. If your lease says that then you are required to pay the additional month.

If you were a month-to-month tenant, and if you never had a written lease that required 60 days notice, then you had to give only 30 days notice.

That depends, when they sent you the renewal notice how quickly did you send it back? If you don't return a renewal notice within a month in some areas the lease is automatically renewed
