I had a home built over 2 years ago. We have a full finished basement with a bathroom and a laundry room. The builders installed an ejector pump to get the waste up to the street sewage line, and we have had problem after problem with it. 3 times over the past 2 years, the pump has been "overwhelmed" and the sewage backs up into my basement. The builders are going back and forth about what to do about it (possibly making the basin bigger, increasing the size of the pipes, etc.), but no good solution has been reached yet. I have never had an ejector pump in my home before, and I am certainly no plumbing expert, but I cannot believe what a nightmare this thing has been. Have others had the same types of problems? Any possible solutions?

Try a zoellner pump. You may be using a pump that is failing because it can not keep up. The zoellner pump costs more but it does more. Get one that will evacuate a washing machine.

Let's first check out the installation. Are there two vents? One vent from the pit that's separate from the house vent and a fixture vent that can be revented back into a existing dry vent. What size pipes and pump do you have?
Let me know. Tom
