View Full Version : Maytag drain pan location?

I just moved my behemoth Maytag wide by side fridge and now there's water leaking from under the frige onto the floor. All the sites and blogs I can find (even the owner's manual) say it is probably a dislodged drain pan or the drain tube came out.

The problem? Well, I'm holding the drain pan in my hand so I KNOW it's not in position! It was removed by someone during the move and no matter where I look I can NOT find a picture or an exploded view (even in the owner's manual) of where the darn thing inserts under the fridge. It doesn't seem to actually fit anywhere. The only place that it almost fits is under the front 'kick plate' but then I don't even know what side to put it on. Also, where is that drain tube that is supposed to go into the pan? As much as I try to "Catch" it leaking I can not seem to determine just where the water is coming from.

If anyone knows I sure would appreciate some insight as I'm using towels on my brand new floors to soak up the water! Thanks! Cheri

Your correct, the drain pan goes behind the "kick plate" there should be a track that it will slide into. Be sure you get it back as far as it will go. The drain tube may be strapped up where you can't see it, find the track and get the pan back in place, it should be fine.

Yes - thanks for your quick reply. The other problem I have is it LOOKS like the kick plate has two screws, but appears to also be BEHIND the hinge nuts (I would need a ratchet socket set to get these off). I just don't understand why the kick plate would be so difficult to remove. In other words, it looks like the doors would practically fall off in the process. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong. I'll have to go to a hardware store 1st to get a tiny socket set... I'm rural, so this is quite a round trip for me. I will try removing JUST the two kick plate screws first and see if I just had my eyes crossed while lying there on the wet floor with a flashlight! Thanks again for your quick help! Cheri

Actually most of the time the "kick plate" just pulls out, it usually has a clip in each corner, try pulling at each side, see if that gets you any where. Let me know
